Superchips "Diamond Nationals" at Lucas Oil Speedway Set for May 11 and 12


CORONA, CA (May 7, 2007)-The Inaugural Superchips "Diamond Nationals" Presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts is set to take place on Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12 at the "Diamond of the Dirt Tracks" the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. The two-day event will culminate on Saturday Night, May 12 with the 25,000 to win event for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series which is sanctioning the event. The total purse exceeds $100,000.

Activities will begin on Thursday, May 10 with an open practice session scheduled. Also on Thursday Night will be a special Go-Kart Challenge between Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers. The preliminary action will get underway at 6:00 PM Central Time on Friday Night, May 11 with Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series hot laps followed by LifeLong Locks Time Trials. Also on Friday Night will be the Hawk Brake and Quarter Master sponsored heat races. The number of heat races will be contingent on the number of entries.

On Saturday Night, May 12 the evening will kick off with a special autograph session for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers. Kenny Bernstein, Melanie Troxel, Tommy Johnson JR and Scott Palmer will be on hand for the autograph session in the speedway dinning area.

The on track action will then see the running of the Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and Penske Shocks B-mains. The Superchips "Diamond Nationals" A-main will then take to the track with a winning purse of $25,000 to win and $1,500 to start the feature.

Not only are the superstars of Dirt Late Model Racing expected to be on hand for the first mega event at the facility but also the cameras of SPEED Channel will tape the event for broadcast that will be shown at a date and time to be announced.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heads to Lucas Oil Speedway having run nine events with eight different winners. Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, IL this past weekend became the first repeat winner this year on the ultra-competitive series tour. Babb's $24,999 payday came at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, KY on May 5.

There are currently 19 drivers who have maintained perfect attendance at all 2007 points paying events for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Those 19 drivers are: Current series points leader, Billy Moyer, Terry English, Don O'Neal, Scott James, Steve Casebolt, Matt Miller, Earl Pearson, Jr., Steve Shaver, Donnie Moran, Dan Schlieper, Ray Cook, Scott Bloomquist, Billy Drake, Damon Eller, Michael England, Justin Rattliff, Brad Neat, John Mason and Freddy Smith. If one of those drivers can take the victory on Saturday Night at Lucas Oil Speedway they will pocket an additional $10,000 on top of the $25,000 first place prize money that is being offered to the winner.

Moyer heads into Lucas Oil Speedway for the first time in his career this upcoming weekend holding an 80 point advantage over English. Moyer the only five time winner of the "World 100" has one series win so far in '07 and that came at Brownstown (IN) Speedway on March 31. "I've never been there, but I hear it's a nice place so we're excited about going there where it's neat and clean like they say it is and they've got a good pit area that's concrete." The 49 year old veteran driver will take to the 3/8ths mile Lucas Oil Speedway for the first time during the special practice session on Thursday Night.

Trailing Moyer and English after the latest point's event at Kentucky Lake are Don O'Neal, Scott James and Steve Casebolt.

The rest of the top are separated by a mere 80 points with Matt Miller, Earl Pearson, Jr., Steve Shaver, Shannon Babb and Donnie Moran sitting in positions 6-10.

The COMP Cams "Rookie of the Year' competition saw four of the six eligible drivers in attendance at Kentucky Lake this past weekend. Damon Eller currently holds the top spot in the rookie standings followed by Justin Rattliff, Brad Neat, Garrett Durrett, Ricky Arms and Mike Mataragas.

The Inaugural Superchips "Diamond Nationals" Presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts will not only feature the exciting racing action of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series both nights but there will be special appearances by drag racing legend Kenny Bernstein along with the latest NHRA Top Fuel winner at St. Louis on May 6, Melanie Troxel and her husband and fellow racer, Tommy Johnson, Jr.
