Kelly Boen takes double feature wins in two nights of racing at Thunder Hill Speedway. Saturday night's victory made number 18 in Boen's Lucas Oil MLRA career. Boen came into the night with an average finish of 4.4 this season with the series. The 07 started on the outside of row one for the feature, along side the 33 of Al Purkey. Kelly Boen's Cornett powered Rocket, sponsored by Road Runner Fabrication and Peterson Fluid Systems, took home $5000 in the race winnings this weekend.
Al Purkey led lap one of the 35 lap A Main Event before Boen sped by on lap two to lead the remainder of the feature. Chad Simpson and Alan Vaughn fought neck and neck for several laps for third before a caution on lap 10. Evan Hubert in the 9 would bring out the yellow and retire to the pit area for the evening. The restart gave Purkey a shot at Boen, but the 07 was dialed in. Chad Simpson would catch up to Purkey and give the second spot a run, eventually capturing the position and holding on until the checkers. Purkey would remain in third place with Delbert Smith and Brad Looney wrapping up the top five positions.
After an exciting race Friday, Thunder on the Hill proved to be a game changer in the 2010 Lucas Oil MLRA points battle. Al Purkey finished heat number one in first while tied points leader Brad Looney came in third. Purkey and Looney tied for the points lead Friday night. Purkey started the feature on the pole with Looney starting in 10th place. Purkey took the points lead by finishing in third, Looney finished in the fifth position of the feature. With two finishing positions between them, Purkey leads Looney by four points into the final race of the 2010 Championship season. The 58 of Dave Eckrich is still holding steady remaining third in the point's race. The Lucas Oil MLRA finale in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma will be an exciting finish to a great race season.
